Hi. I’m Chad Olivier, CEO and certified financial planner with Olivier Group.
There’s a new savings tool designed to help families build wealth for the next generation, and it’s called the Trump account. Imagine giving a child not just a thousand dollars, but eighteen years for compound growth to do the heavy lifting. And that’s the real power behind these new accounts. For eligible children born between two thousand twenty five and two thousand twenty eight, the government provides a one time one thousand dollar contribution to help jump start their future.
Parents, grandparents, and others can contribute up to five thousand dollars a year, and employers may also be able to contribute on behalf of the employee’s child. The money is invested in diversified stock index funds and grows tax deferred, allowing families to harness the power of long term investing.
Generally, the money remains invested until age eighteen. At that point, the beneficiary gains control of the account and can use it for goals like education, buying a first home, starting a business, or continuing to invest for retirement. Trump accounts aren’t meant to replace five twenty nine plans or retirement accounts, but they may provide another tool to help families build generational wealth and teach children the value of saving and investing.
